At 3:35pm on Sunday February 15th the Milan Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at 319 Willow Glenn Rd. On arrival at the scene Firefighter M. Sardaro and Trooper J. Galm (also a Milan firefighter) witnessed flames pouring out of two windows on the southwest corner of the building. A second alarm was transmitted. Trooper Galm noticed vehicles in the driveway and a purse in one of the vehicles. At this point with no occupants around and evidence suggesting victims trapped in the building it was decided to deploy one of the Departments new FIT-5 devices. The FIT-5 bought precious time for firefighters to gear up and make entry into the building.
An aggressive interior attack was made. A primary search of the building was completed and no victims found. Upon arrival of the homeowner question was raised as to the whereabouts of their two sons. A secondary search was completed with no victims found. Later it was revealed that no one was home at the time of the blaze, the sons were out with friends. Fire damage to the house was limited to the room of origin as well as parts of the adjoining rooms and roof. The rest of the first floor suffered heat, smoke and water damage. The remained of the house did suffer some smoke and or water damage.
Milan firefighters were assisted by Pine Plains, Livingston, and Red Hook at the scene. And Ancram, and Rhinebeck covered Milan’s stations and Tivoli cover Red Hook’ station
